Description

Gamification is the use of game-focused elements that help to increase the engagement within an Augmented Reality experience. Elements such as scoring points, competing against other players or skill based mini-games.

Marketers love to use the word gamification, however when it’s used correctly it can drastically increase engagement and how much fun users can have within an AR experience.

A great example of this is when brands give consumers a specific challenge, and if they win or score enough points, they unlock a special deal or discount. Using gamification in this not only increases engagement with the experience but also increases the direct ROI of the AR experience. It gives consumers a reason to click-through from the experience to make a purchase.

Examples of fun games that can be included in Augmented Reality experiences can be:

  • Points based games, e.g. ‘Shooting hoops’ into a 3D basketball net
  • Achievements e.g. finding all hidden Easter eggs inside an experience
  • Levels e.g. playing through different levels of difficulty
  • Leader boards e.g. multiplayer style games with leader board to increase competition
