ue to the success of two previous campaigns which ran during Halloween and Christmas, the Sunderland BID is releasing seven new characters which can be captured on a trail via the Sunderland Experience App.

Users can search for bunnies, chicks, ducks and lambs while out and around the North East city’s centre. As well as offering fun activities for both children and adults, there are also additional incentives, including a whole host of special offers available from many of the city’s local businesses.

Retailers including Thoburns Fresh Produce, Ibbitson’s Butchers, Harrison and Brown, Beauty HQ, Bou-chique, Flowers By Jennifer, Museum and Winter Gardens, Pop’s Candy and Sweet Petite are all supporting the campaign with a number of exclusive deals.

The trail will be available on the Sunderland Experience App on March 29 and run until April 30, giving app users plenty of time to find all seven characters and bring them to live through augmented reality technology.

Head of Business Operations at Sunderland BID, Sharon Appleby, said that the decision to create a new trail followed due to the success of the previous Halloween and Christmas campaigns.

Appleby stated:

“At a time when so many activities have been limited, it’s great to be able to offer families something to do which takes place outside… It means that people can still remain socially distanced but have some much-needed fun at the same time… Hopefully, with the weather also improving massively, this will be something that families can do together over the Easter period.”

The augmented reality trails at Halloween and Christmas were incredibly popular, users were able to spot monsters emerging from buildings and landmarks. Virtual mummies would come towards users and dancing Christmas trees appeared on the street.

The augmented reality trail can be accessed by downloading the Sunderland Experience App, which is free from the Apple or Google Play app store. Those who had previously installed the app will be able to use it again from March 29 until April 30.
