he new 2021 Cadillac Escalade is a huge, luxury SUV with a price tag to match. Owners of the new Escalade can easily spend a whopping $80,000 to own one, but is it worth the price tag? Well, one of the new features may sweeten the deal - Augmented Reality navigation.
The standard model of the latest Escalade comes with more than 38 inches of diagonal display area. In the driver’s area is a dashboard dominated by a range of panels, including a small 7 inch screen to the driver's left, a 14 inch digital instrument cluster up front and a 17 inch screen for the infotainment system. The displays are thin and gently curved towards the driver, with OLED screens, showcasing the largest colour range of any automotive display currently on the market.
But that's not all, these screens offer night vision, assisting the driver to see pedestrians and animals through lower speed zones. However, the most innovative addition to the new Escalade comes in the new "augmented-reality turn-by-turn navigation" system.
The driver can set a route in the navigation system, and the Escalade overlays graphics on top of the live video stream. Arrows will appear to show the driver exactly where they should turn, moving and changing shape as size as the driver moves closer or further away from key points with both visual and audio cues. The way in which the system has been developed has created an intuitive and slick design, which makes it nearly impossible to miss a turn.
The 2021 Cadillac Escalade has been a dream car for many since its release in 1991. Now combined with the advanced augmented reality technology in the dashboard screens, makes the SUV more sought after than ever before.
