dobe has revealed a new concept named ‘Dually Noted’, which uses augmented reality (AR) to allow for seamless collaboration when editing a document simultaneously, across both physical and digital versions.

The Dually Noted tool synchronises notes so they show on the physical version of a document via AR. The tool allows for notes made in Adobe Acrobat on a PDF to be linked to a physical copy of the document and displayed in AR using your smartphone.

For example, if a teacher and a student are collaborating on a paper, the student can make annotations on the PDF digital copy and the teacher can then view those annotations overlaid on the physical copy while they proofread. The user can mark and review documents physically while also using their smartphone to check for any feedback that has been made digitally.

The app also then allows the Dually Noted user to reply to comments on their smartphone, which get automatically synced into the digital copy of the document. In addition to this, AR can be used to highlight and comment on full sections of text as well. Taking the best of both worlds, Dually Noted allows for physical proofing and eliminates the need to open up a digital copy on your computer just to see a few notes that apply to certain pages.

Dually Noted was revealed as part of a series called ‘Adobe Sneaks’, which showcased innovative, proof-of-concept projects in progress at Adobe. All the concepts that Adobe revealed may not necessarily make it to a full release, but viewers can cast their vote online for their favourite Adobe Sneak project, in the hopes that it may be released as a finished item.
