rom Sunday 8th August, the Long Beach Augmented Reality Exhibition is taking over the downtown park, as 17 finalists showcase their interactive presentations on a myriad of subjects, utilising computer-generated visual elements, sound and sensory stimuli to provide an enhanced version of the real, physical world.
The event hosts live music as well as food and drink vendors from local restaurants to enhance the LB Augmented Reality Challenge, an initiative that began five months ago by inviting people of all skill levels to use technology to imagine and create experiences highlighting Long Beach’s past, present or future. In all, 27 groups stepped up to participate, half of which came from Long Beach, with the rest hailing from as far away as Canada and Japan.
The entries were narrowed down to just 17 finalists, who then added the augmented reality experience around Harvey Milk. Visitors who attended the LB Augmented Reality Challenge can cast their vote for their favourite presentations via Instagram.
