acebook have announced that they are hosting an Oculus Gaming Showcase, which will stream to Facebook, Twitch and YouTube. The event begins at 3 pm Pacific time on April 21 and is available in the United States and Japan.
The event is the first of its kind from Facebook, and will feature several announcements in a digital-only event focused solely around Oculus VR games.
In the announcement, Facebook teased reveals from Cloudhead Games, Ready At Dawn, and ILMxLab with news related to Pistol Whip, Lone Echo II, and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
In a recent [nofollow]blog post, Facebook stated that the event will feature “never-before-seen footage from some unreleased games, and a few surprises in store.”
The event coincides with Facebook building awareness for its Oculus Quest 2 standalone system, with some Facebook executives claiming it to be the first “mainstream” VR headset.
Currently, 1 in 4 headsets use the Valve’s Steam platform with the Oculus Quest 2, while an untold number are in active use in standalone mode. However, dozens of developers have begun earning millions in revenue due to Facebook and the Quest platform opening up the App Lab distribution platform. This has led to developers being able to distribute content to Quest owners without full store approval and without the need to use a PC for sideloading. Meanwhile, the Rift S is now at the end of its life as Facebook has ceased to restock the device.
