olish video game company CD Projekt, is returning to the Witcher universe, with the launch of their new smartphone AR game, The Witcher: Monster Slayer, which merges AR and the real world environment to deliver an immersive gaming experience.
Established in 2018, Spokko, the mobile gaming studio of CD Projekt is in charge of the new Witcher game. Although the game will be set in the same Witcher universe as CD Projekt RED's popular trilogy, it is described as a prequel that won't see Geralt of Rivia for "for hundreds more years."
Players will be tracking down, studying, and hunting monsters in the real world and in real time, using weather conditions to their benefit and just like in the original trilogy, players will be able to brew potions and oils, craft bombs, and upgrade their skills to make the task of taking down tougher monsters easier.
Spokko promises story-driven quests that lead players into becoming Witchers, "console-grade visuals," first-person combat inspired by RPGs, as well as a wide variety of monsters both new and old.
The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be free-to-play at launch, and although a release date has not been announced, the official website is offering newsletter sign-ups for those interested in keeping up with the project.
