ikTok has announced that the company is experimenting with a set of developer tools which would enable creators to one day build augmented reality effects on the popular app.
According to one report, the TikTok Effect Studio is currently in private beta. TikTok reported that the Effect Studio is simply an “experiment” at this stage and may not make it to a full launch.
Both Snapchat and Facebook have developed their own augmented reality platforms, which encourage people to build new camera effects for their respective platforms, so it would be a sensible product for TikTok to build. Augmented reality keeps audiences engaged and by outsourcing the development of new effects to users, they are able to create what they want to see.
The site launched earlier this month, however, it is still in the early stages of development. One TikTok spokesperson was reported to say:
“We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience… Currently, we’re experimenting with ways to give creators additional tools to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community.”
